What is the car seat law in Spain?

Article 117 of the Reglamento General de Circulación (as amended by Royal Decree 667/2015) requires minors 135 cm or shorter to use an approved child restraint system suited to their height and weight, generally in the rear seats. DGT recommends CRS use up to 150 cm. Seats must meet ECE R44/04 or ECE R129 (i-Size).

Can I use my US car seat in Spain?

To drive legally in Spain the seat needs European ECE marking (R44/04 or R129). Many US FMVSS-only seats don’t. Renting a local homologated seat is simpler than checking yours and risking a fine.

Do rental car companies include a seat?
